Overview

PB&J is a self-funded venture in collaboration with co-founder, Stuart Stein to explore the capabilities of the iPad and create high-end children’s content for the iPad.

THE CHALLENGE


With the release of the iPad in 2010, it became apparent that new experiences were suddenly possible with the larger screen and device capabilities. It was a new children’s playground! In collaboration with co-founder, Stuart Stein, we set out to answer a simple question: What is the children’s book for the iPad generation?

SOLUTION


In an effort to captivate, engage and delight children, we re-conceptualized the classic tale, Hansel & Gretel. Fully stocked with high-end illustrations, rich animations, dynamic sound effects, music, narration, character voiceover and countless places to tap, swipe, poke and flick, each page was designed to not only bring the story to life, but to enable children to be immersed and active in the story itself.

In parallel to developing the Hansel & Gretel app, we designed a fun, brand identity for our company PB&J Publishing and developed creative marketing initiatives that earned us many downloads and press mentions.

Product Design


Collaborated with PB&J Publishing co-founder to re-imagine storytelling for the newly launched iPad platform. Our goal was to leverage the functional capabilities without distracting from what’s most important, the story. To do this, each page was designed with story-driving touch and sound enhanced functionality.

Led a team of illustrators, animators, music and sound effect designers and voiceover artists to develop a fully immersive, delightful and engaging, storytelling experience for children.

Additionally developed app UI and tested optimal button placement with children and parents.

App Marketing Strategy


With a shoestring budget, creative solutions designed to raise awareness about the app. Leveraging a multi-touchpoint campaign and coordinated creative strategies, we were able to generate buzz and drive sales.
